When the weather is good Summer is the time to get outside, breath the fresh air and enjoy the outdoor dining experience of a picnic.
Is there anything better than lugging a hamper to a lovely spot and laying out the picnic rug for an excellent al fresco lunch in the open air?
In the 1950's, the Swedish designer Marianne Westman believed this too, so she created her 'Picknick' design that has stood the test of time. Originally made for the Swedish porelain company Rorstrand in Lidkoping, the design became so popular that it was soon used on textiles and other home items.
Today, original pieces are sought after collector items and many items have been in constant production ever since, such as those produced by the textile company Almedahls in Kinna, Sweden and available in the UK from New House Textiles.
summer cotton bags and printed oil cloth
Picknick paper napkins
Picknick drinks tray and tea towel
Kitchen aprons and heat-proof pot holders
Laminated chopping boards and Hors D'ovre trays
The above designs are all in Marianne Westman's original colours, but a few years ago she approved up-dated versions in new colours that are also avaiable :
Cotton fabric and oil-cloth as well as tea towels
Trays and round trivets
Despite being over 60 years old, Picknick still looks great and is a marvelous adition to any kitchen and of course a picnic!
